What causes pelvic pain?

Pelvic pain in women is caused by issues with the reproductive organs, the pelvic muscles and joints, the intestines, the bladder or by psychological factors. This pain can feel like a sharp stab in one specific spot or a dull pain that is spread out. It can begin suddenly, be cyclical or recurrent and it can be accompanied by other symptoms. As an OB/GYN, Dr. Lawrence Eisenhauer helps patients who experience pelvic pain due to gynecological conditions.

What are the gynecologic causes?

Some of the most common gynecologic causes are endometriosis, uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts. Endometriosis is a painful disorder in which the endometrium (the tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus) grows outside of the uterus. Aside from pelvic pain, some of the other symptoms include painful periods, painful intercourse and excessive bleeding. Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths that develop in the uterus and cause heavy menstrual bleeding, bladder issues and pelvic pressure or pain. Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that form in or on the surface of an ovary. Cysts in the ovaries are common and often harmless, but when one ruptures, it can create severe pain in the pelvic area.

Dr. E is down to earth. I transferred to him after being mistreated at my previous gyno during my first pregnancy. He made me feel comfortable and safe. His nurse Kristi is AMAZING! She is always there to help and answer any of your questions! I would recommend Dr. E to anyone!*
